Wines of the Month Maison Desprat... A Hidden Gem in the Heart of France!
August 1, 2019
The Auvergne region of France is located in the heart of the country; the Auvergne Vineyard is the most upstream of the five wine-making regions of the Loire Valley and is one of the oldest vineyards in France. It has the oldest populated region of France with the lowest population density. With this in mind, it’s hardly surprising that most wine drinkers have not heard of their wines, let alone tried them! In 2011, the Cotes d’ Auvergne was upgraded and awarded AOC status and for the first time ever was available in the U.S. market. The wines offer a superb minerality and freshness with their volcanic origins being able to be recognized immediately. The vines grow on a wide array of soils that range from granite, sand and volcanic rocks depending on their location in relation to the ancient volcanoes. We can't wait to share Patrick's discovery, the uniquely charming wines of Maison Desprat to you all month long!
