September Staff Picks!
Ellen’s Pick:
2008 Penner Ash Pinot Noir
Willamette Valley, Oregon
Pinot Noir is one of my favorite grape varietals and Oregon is one of my favorite places in the world! I recently shared a bottle of this beautiful wine with a friend over a leisurely lunch. I keep remembering the aromas of rich berries and violets and how much each sip stood up so perfectly to the smoked brisket we were eating. I am anxiously anticipating the next time I can enjoy it and look forward to see how it pairs with a completely different meal!
$49.99 per bottle, $599.88 per case

Fletcher’s Pick:
2006 Babcock Under the Radar Syrah
Santa Ynez Valley, California
The wine delivers hearty aromas of blueberry and vanilla. The palate is medium-bodied, with rich savory notes, vanilla, blueberries and a touch of cola leading to a satiny finish. To me, this is just a really interesting Syrah for a great price.
$14.99 per bottle, $179.88 per case

Janet’s Pick:
2000 Viña Ardanza Reserva
La Rioja Alta, Spain
I find that this wonderful wine delivers an enticing bouquet of cedar, spice box, leather, forest floor, black cherry, and blackberry. With ripe and complex flavors this Rioja has excellent balance and is a pure joy to drink.
$34.99 per bottle, $419.88 per case

Curt’s Pick:
2007 Argiano NC Rosso Toscano
Tuscany, Italy
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese. It’s a wonderful balance of red fruits, smoke and meat with a full body and pronounced—but integrated—tannins and acidity. I find it to be a very versatile wine when pairing with food. Great with pasta, but works equally well with a juicy steak or lamb.
$24.99 per bottle, $299.88 per case

Becky’s Pick:
2009 Dr. Loosen Riesling
Mosel, Germany
"Dr. L" embodies the elegant and racy style of Riesling. Very fruity and a bit sweet, this Riesling is a perfect complement for the end of summer heat. With notes of lime, peaches, honey, and pie crust, this wine became a quick favorite. It's my go to treat when I don't want to indulge in a dessert. If you want a delectable wine for sipping on the deck, when you have a good book in one hand and need something to hold in the other, let its crisp taste cool your palate and refresh your spirits.
$12.99 per bottle, $155.88 per case

Jim's Pick:
2007 Elisabeth Chambellan Châteauneuf du Pape
Rhone Valley, France
From the excellent 2007 vintage, this full-bodied Châteauneuf du Pape is drinking well now and will improve over the next several years. Rated 90 points by Parker, this is a superb value! I drink this wine with my New Orleans Sausage and Chicken Jambalaya.
$39.99 per bottle, $479.88 per case
