2005 Ridge Zinfandel Ponzo Vineyard
97% Zinfandel, 3% Petite Sirah
All the fruit in this, the fourth Ponzo Zinfandel, comes from Bob Ponzo's vineyard just south of Healdsburg. The grapes ripened slowly in the cool Russian River Valley giving this wine full fruit extraction with firm, yet developed acidity. After natural malolactic fermentation, the wine spent twelve months in air-dried american oak giving it a smooth, round finish. The 2005 Ponzo is a beautifully balanced, sensuous wine. Enjoyable now, it will continue to develop over the next five to six years.
