Patrick Bouculat
Patrick grew up in a small village not far from Lyon and graduated from the renowned Academie du Vin in Paris. He came to the United States in 1985, working for a distributor and importer/exporter before joining Mills Wine and Spirits as General Manager. Patrick became a U.S. citizen in 1991 and resides in Annapolis with his wife Martha. He has been part of the wine industry for nearly 20 years, during which time his travels have afforded him the opportunity to discover vineyards and estates throughout Europe and the United States. His unique blend of education and experience, combined with his innate ability to build relationships, enables him to share special finds and a variety of delightful wines with you here at Wine Cellars of Annapolis.

Ellen Spicknall
Ellen developed a passion for wine while working in the restaurant business over the past eight years. She very much enjoys the study of wine and is fascinated by its relation to history and culture. Recently passing the exam by the Society of Wine Educators for Certified Wine Specialist, she is continuing study in preparation for the Certified Wine Educator exam. She has developed and regularly teaches her introductory wine course at Wine Cellars. She is also kept busy with leading private tastings and coordinating a wide variety of events. She has made recent wine tours in Germany, Alsace, Champagne, California and Oregon. Always delighted to talk about wine, Ellen would like to encourage new comers to ask questions as wine appeals not only to the senses but also to the mind.

Vernon Humble
Vern comes to us as a native of the Big Island of Hawaii, having been transplanted to Annapolis via a six year tour in the Air Force. He has a passion for all things in the world of wine and food, and is constantly looking to expand his knowledge. Vern feels that since the purpose of wine is to bring people pleasure, one should never have to waste their time being intimidated by it. In his free time, Vern enjoys rock climbing, hiking, cooking, and drinking wine. He can often be found furthering his professional research at home, single-handedly conducting thorough and exhaustive tastings of wine, beer, and high-end spirits.

Jim Hobson
Jim came to Annapolis in 1970 from the great food town of New Orleans. He quickly developed a love of sailing and the Chesapeake Bay, and had a career in the marine industry for many years. Prior to joining the team at Wine Cellars of Annapolis, Jim owned and operated a fine antiques shop on Maryland Avenue. In his quest to enjoy and learn about wine, he has traveled extensively through California, Washington State, Burgundy, Champagne, and Bordeaux. He believes the best (and most fun!) way to learn about wine is to taste the many varieties and regions now available.

Curt Stevens
Curt moved to Annapolis in 1984 to pursue a career in the yachting industry. An avid sailor and racer, he has owned and operated two marine businesses since then in manufacturing and marketing of semi-custom yachts. Curt developed a love of wine during his travels around the world and continues to pursue his passion for wine and food at WCA. A professional musician by trade, Curt spends his spare time performing and recording recreationally.

James Gross
Born and raised in Anne Arundel County, “Jimmy” has more than 25 years of experience in the local wine business. His passion for wine, beer and spirits is followed closely by a love of sports, and in his free time he can be found playing basketball, baseball, or just enjoying the Ravens or O’s with friends and family.

2006 Ridge Monte Bello
“The 2006 Monte Bello (68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc) is a very strong effort. Its dense purple color is followed by copious aromas of creme de cassis, licorice, spice box, and a touch of oak. Well-balanced, dense, pure, layered, and rich, its big, rich style is similar to the 2003. This cuvee should keep for 25-30 years in a cool cellar.” 94+ points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate.
