After 40 years in the aviation business, 34 years with an airline and 6 years working as a consultant, Jerry retired in 1997. Since then, he has pursued his interests in cooking, wine, fishing, crabbing and traveling with his wife Barbara. Jerry joined Wine Cellars in September 2002. Being in the aviation business gave him the opportunity to travel extensively to most of the major wine growing areas of the world - France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Chile - and all the wine-growing areas of California. Jerry loves to talk about matching food with wine, as well as his travels throughout the world, so if you have questions don't hesitate to ask his advice. Vern comes to us as a native of the Big Island of Hawaii, having been transplanted to Annapolis via a six year tour in the Air Force. He has a passion for all things in the world of wine and food, and is constantly looking to expand his knowledge. Vern feels that since the purpose of wine is to bring people pleasure, one should never have to waste their time being intimidated by it. In his free time, Vern enjoys rock climbing, hiking, cooking, and drinking wine. He can often be found furthering his professional research at home, single-handedly conducting thorough and exhaustive tastings of wine, beer, and high-end spirits.

 2005 Whip Hand Cabernet Sauvignon
“Opaque purple-colored, the wine has a fabulous smoky, tar, scorched earth, black fruit, and licorice-scented perfume that roars from the glass. Full-bodied, opulent and layered with flavor, this ripe, structured Cabernet has great length and the structure to evolve for 10-15 years. If it said Napa Valley on the label, you could multiply the price times six. That makes it an awesome value.”
-96pts, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
